Uses
The drug belongs to group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. The action is in the relaxation of veins and arteries so that blood can more easily pass through them and the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck. The latter helps to make it easier to urinate. This helps patients being treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia or enlarged prostate.

Dosage
The dosage should be as prescribed only. You need to strictly follow the directions on your prescription label. Medical practitioners prescribe the doasge according to the tolerance to the drug determined by clinical tests, prior to use.

Side effects
You need to get medical help if you develop hives, difficulty while breathing or notice facial swelling. The other reactions include painful penis erection, insomnia, abnormal ejaculation, decreased sex drive and a sore throat.

Drug precautions
The medication needs to be taken with a full glass of water, whole, once a day - after a meal. However, if you stop the medication for a while, you need to call the doctor before starting again. The drug should be stored at room temperature, in a cool dry place.

Drug interactions
Doctors advise not to use Flomax if you already use some other alpha-adrenergic blocker such as Uroxatral, Cardura, Minipress or Hytrin. Prior to the administration of the drug, it is very important to indicate to the doctor if you are allergic to any drugs or in the case of prostate cancer and an impending cataract surgery. The drug is not supposed to be harmful to an unborn baby. Flomax is strictly not for use in children and women.

Overdose
Flomax overdose shows up in the form of rapid heartbeats, cold/clammy skin, headache and fainting. Flomax is also associated with impaired reactions. However, in case of an overdose, you should immediately inform the doctor.

Miss dose
In the case of a missed dosage, do not attempt a double dose on your own. Take the next dose on time and bring the lapse to the doctor's attention. You should adhere to the specifics prescribed by your doctor only.

Storage
The drug should be stored in a cool, dry place. It is advisable to keep the drug away from the reach of children and especially teenagers, since the age is commonly assocaited with inquisitiveness and they are known to be very experimental.
