Uses
Elimite is primarily used in the treatment of scabies, and in reducing the itching which is usually associated with such conditions.
How to take Eurax
The medication is commonly available in prescription-required ten percent cream or lotion formulations. Shake the container well before using. Apply the cream or the lotion in a thin layer to the affected body parts, starting from the neck, and down towards the soles of the feet (scabies doesn't normally infect the head). Make sure the skin is dry before an application, and rub the consistency well on the surface. Leave this for twenty-four hours, and make a second application without washing the first one. Wash the skin after 48 hours of the last application.
Side effects
Adverse effects are unlikely to happen. Discontinue use if an allergic reaction is experienced, such as closing of the throat, a shortness of breath, swelling on the face, the tongue and lips, and hives. If symptoms of slight itching, stinging, or a burning sensation worsens after application, or rashes, swelling, and redness of the skin occurs, consult a doctor.
Drug precautions
Never ingest Eurax, and avoid using the medication in more than the prescribed amount. Do not make applications on the eyes, nose, or the mouth and facial area, on wounds and open cuts. Refrain from intimate and sexual contact with other people until infection is fully cured. Do not share bed linens, hair combs, and articles for personal use such as hair accessories, clothing, and hats.
Drug interactions
Avoid applying other topical preparations on affected areas which are being treated with Eurax. Other medications may also have an interaction with Eurax, so potential users are advised to consult with their doctor or pharmacist before taking on prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications and supplements.
Overdose
In such cases, seek immediate medical help. Indications of an overdose (succeeding ingestion) may include abdominal pain, a burning sensation in the mouth, vomiting, nausea, and an irritation or inflammation of the stomach lining, the mouth and the throat.
Missed dose
The recommended treatment with Eurax is in two doses, with 24-hour intervals. If the second application is missed, the condition may require a fresh treatment. Contact a doctor in such instances.
Storage
Keep Eurax within room temperature, in a tightly sealed-container, and away from excessive moisture and heat.
