Generic Allegra

Allegra is a medication which lowers the amount of histamine within the body. Histamine generates symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, watery and red eyes, itching of the nose and throat, and rinorrhea.

Uses
The medication is commonly used in the treatment of the indications of a seasonal allergy such as hay fever, in both adults and children. It is also used in relieving the symptoms such as skin itching or hives, from a condition known as chronic idiopathic urticaria.

How to take Allegra
Allegra is an oral medication which is usually taken an hour before or two hours after a meal, twice a day (in the morning and evening), and on an empty stomach. For dosage prescription and adjustment, the user is advised to follow the prescription of a doctor before intake.

Side effects
The more common adverse effects include drowsiness, nausea, weakness, vomiting, an upset stomach, mild to moderate headaches, muscle and back pains, and menstrual cramps in women; allergic symptoms such as hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, the lips and tongue, and a closing sensation in the throat. The user should consult a doctor if adverse effects are experienced after drug intake.

Drug precautions
Individuals who have experienced an allergic reaction to Allegra are discouraged from further using it. Those with an illness or disease of the liver, heart, and the kidney are advised to consult their doctor first before taking the drug; the latter may adjust the dosage of intake to suit the medical condition of the user. It is not recommended for use as treatment for children below six years old; pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult with their doctor before considering on taking it.

Drug interactions
The chemical components of Allegra may have interactions with ketoconazole, and erythromycin. Other prescription or over-the-counter drugs may interact with Allegra as well, so any potential user should inform a physician about any drug, vitamins, herbal products, and minerals which he or she is currently taking. New medications should also not be taken without consultation.

Overdose
Indications of an overdose of Allegra include a dry mouth, dizziness, and drowsiness. If these are experienced, immediately seek medical help.

Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible, provided that the next one is not nearly due; otherwise follow the schedule as indicated on the label or by the prescription.

Storage
Allegra tablets or capsules are stored in foil packs, and must be kept at room temperatures of 20 to 25 °C, away from excessive moisture.
