Drug Uses
Allegra D is used to treat seasonal allergies, commonly known as hay fever. Hay fever is caused due to inhalation of pollen grains from plants and flowers that lead to allergic reactions in nose and throat. The symptoms accompanied by this allergic infection include nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, itching in nose and eyes, along with red eyes.
How to Take Drug
Allegra D is available in two forms namely, Allegra D-12 hours and Allegra D-24 hours. Both these are available in tablet forms and must be consumed with water. While the former must be taken once a day with 12 hours gap, for later, gap of 24 hours must be maintained. Here are some important points to be considered:
- Drug must be taken empty stomach.
- Don't break or chew the tablet.
- Maintain a particular time for consuming the tablet.
- Not to be given to children below 12 years.
Drug Precautions
Before you start consuming, Allegra D, you must talk about your health issues with your physician. You must inform him about any kind of diseases from which you are suffering. The people suffering from problems like heart disorders, kidney and lever disorders, unstable blood pressure, diabetes, urinary problems and glaucoma must have a deep word of consultation with doctor.
Apart from this, the women, who are pregnant, breastfeeding or are planning to carry a baby, must consult the physician. Also, old age people must take the prescribed dose of Allegra D that is easily absorbed by their body.
Drug Interactions
If you are having some other drug, you must discuss them with doctor to avoid any kind of negative drug interactions. The drugs that can interact with Allegra D include:
- Ketoconazole
- Antacids with aluminum and magnesium as main components
- MAO controllers
- Stimulants
- Digoxin
- Drugs for blood pressure
- Beta blockers
- Decongestants
- Recreational drugs
Your physician might advice you to stop in taking any one drug out of two, or change the dose of any one of them.
Side Effects
The intake of Allegra D might be associated with a number of side effects that include:
- Back pain
- Insomnia
- Difficulty in breathing
- Abnormal heartbeat rate
- Dry mouth, throat and eyes
- Headache and anxiety
- Abdominal pain
- Constipation and diarrhea
- Swelling on face and other parts, along with skin rashes
- Common cold and flu
- Nervousness and hallucinations
The dose of Allegra D must be immediately stopped and doctor must be consulted, in case you experience any of the above-mentioned symptoms.
Missed Dose
If little time has passed after you missed the dose, you can consume it immediately. However, if more than 7-8 hours have passed, you must skip it, as fewer gaps will be left for next dose.
Overdose
Double dose of Allegra D must be avoided, as it may lead to serious results like respiratory disorders, high level insomnia, and high blood pressure and heart problems.
Storage
Allegra D must be kept out of reach of children below 12 and pets. It could be stored at room temperature and the place must be away from sun and water.
