Uses
The cream is rubbed onto the affected area to get rid of the virus that causes the condition of genital and peri-anal warts. Doctors the world over prescribe the use of Aldara and have shown great faith in its effective application in a number of cases that have been clinically tested and researched upon.

Treatment
Aldara cream is rubbed on the warts, usually at night. The residue that is unabsorbed via the skin is then washed off in the morning. The Aldara cream needs to be applied exactly as prescribed by the doctor. In the case of external genital and perianal warts, Aldara is to be used once a day and for 3 days a week. The cream is usually left on the skin for at least eight hours. In the case of actinic keratosis, it is used once a day for 2 days of the week.

Drug side effects
You should not use Aldara longer than prescribed. Over-use can increase your chances of developing a severe skin reaction. You should use Aldara only on the area that requires treatment. Your healthcare provider will specify how often and for how long to apply it. The most common side effects of the cream are skin reactions that include redness, swelling, blisters or ulcers, hardened or thickened skin, scabbing, itching and changes in skin color. In case of any side effects surfacing, you should always consult the doctor and in case of severity of the same, avoid the next application, till you see the doctor.

Drug precautions
Aldara Cream is for external application only. It should not be consumed or rubbed near the eyes, on the lips or nostrils. Aldara Cream is used for several skin conditions.

Drug interactions
In the case of severe skin irritation or flu-like symptoms, you should check with the doctor. It may be necessary for you to reduce the use of the medication or stop it temporarily, until the symptoms disappear. You should avoid having sex while the medicine is on and ensure that you wash the cream off, before you engage in any sexual activity. Aldara contains oils that are known to weaken latex condoms, diaphragms and cervical caps. You should not use any other skin product on the same skin area and do not share the cream with others.

Over use
In the case of excessive application, more than what is required; you should consult the doctor if there is a development of any kind of irritation.

Missed application
Apply the missed application of cream as soon as you remember and then continue with the regular schedule.

Storage
Aldara should be stored below 25 degrees Celsius. You should throw away any unused Aldara and when in use, keep the medication in a container, and out of reach of children.
